STEP 1: CALL the Hotel for a Room Reservation 540-297-4900. AS OF APR 10TH THERE ARE MANY STUDIOS AVAILABLE, BUT ONE-BEDROOMS ARE GETTING SCARCE. There are plenty of 2-Bedrooms available so far. Cameron is matching people up for the 2-Bedrooms, in which case two people would each have their own bedroom with a door & private bathroom. Three ladies in a 2-Bedroom condo really brings the price down (for example). Right now we need a lady to share. Cameron is helping to locate alternative lodging (as well) if the rooms are all booked or people need other budget options. Idea: Use mapquest.com & bring up "Huddleston, VA." Click the button in the upper right showing a bed icon to search for hotels on the map; "pushpins" will appear on the map. You may have to zoom out. Click on these pushpins to find lodging, perhaps along your travel route.

STEP 2: REGISTER with this site using PayPal, Credit Card, Check-in-the-Mail or Cash-at-the-Door! Even if you intend to Pay Cash-at-the-Door, please register on this site ASAP so we can try to add you for meals. Click the orange link to "Show other payment options" and you can lock in a lower price by keying in the code 3bucks.

Susan Swiatek

Welcome & Virginia UFO Casebook Update

Susan was born in Washington, DC, yet grew up near Denver, Colorado. Since 1970 she is (again) living near the nation's capital, in Fairfax, Virginia. She is State Director for VA MUFON and is active with the Fund for UFO Research, Inc. (FUFOR). Susan's early years were spent in the Rockies gazing up at the star-filled sky and contemplating the Milky Way. As a child, she read such phenomena based books as Charles Fort's Book of the Damned and Mysterious Fires and Lights by Vincent Gaddis. In 1966, when Betty and Barney Hill's Interrupted Journey exploded onto the pages of Look Magazine, she was hooked on the UFO and abduction mysteries. Susan was greatly influenced by the writings of researchers Budd Hopkins and Dr. David Jacobs, both of whom she now considers friends. Susan holds a BFA degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore and works in the publishing field. Susan hosted the 1999 MUFON Int'l Symposium just outside Washington, DC and has lectured widely. Her artwork appears in many books such as Ron Story's Extraterrestrial Encyclopedia and Richard Hall's The UFO Evidence-Part II. She has created many publication covers for FUFOR & the UFO Research Coalition.

Latest UFO News & Space Developments

Robert has had a curiosity about space, aeronautics and UFOs all his life. From launching rockets as a boy to working as an intern at NASA during college, Robert has only continued to increase his knowledge of conventional space vehicles as well as unconventional UFOs. His degrees in physics and earth science paved the way for a career at the US Patent Office where he is a Physics Examiner in aerospace technology. Robert has lectured at conferences throughout the US and contributed writing to numerous UFO projects and titles, especially for the Fund for UFO Research (FUFOR). Robert is frequently seen turning up on the Discovery or History channels in various productions. His aggressive debating style on programs such as Larry King Live has won him accolades from many in the field. He has served as Secretary-Treasurer of both FUFOR (since 1986) and the UFO Research Coalition (URC) since its inception in 1997. Robert has been on the Board of MUFON since 2004.

Beyond the Truth: Bizarre Personal Experiences & Strange Intelligences

Cameron is the Founder & Director of the Virginia Beach UFO Club, which meets regularly at libraries in the area. He also serves as Ass't State Director for Virginia MUFON (the Mutual UFO Network). Cameron had his earliest experience with UFOs in 2003 when he had a Close Encounter in Virginia Beach. Since then, he has had his own personal journey into the realm of UFOs and beyond, possibly involving intelligences that transcend our Earth. Originally born in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1983, Cameron presents an open-ended view of what he has seen. He has researched UFOs in earnest and in 2004 obtained a collection of UFO sighting reports from the Virginia Beach City Police Department, dating back to 1976. He has made numerous FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests to other police departments, the FBI and to every US Air Force base in the world seeking UFO sighting records reported in the base security police blotters. Cameron has conducted many MUFON field investigations, qualifying to be part of MUFON's elite fast-response STAR Team. Cameron is enrolled in a science-based college curriculum which should aid him in his continuing career in Ufology.

Under the Radar: UFOs and National Security

Patrick Huyghe has been a lifelong anomalist, so it is no surprise to find out he is the force behind the wildly popular anomalist.com web site. His pithy prose keeps the reader informed of the latest odd happenings and their theories from around the world. The straightforward design of the site is refreshing as new entries are simply dated and added; the voyeur is free to link to whatever oddity strikes their fancy. Mr. Huyghe is editor-in-chief of Anomalist Books and was previously editor of Simon & Schuster's imprint, Paraview Pocket Books, and before that, editor of the pioneer POD publisher Paraview Press. In addition to The Anomalist site he has also created and maintained Small Comets, the news site for the discovery of small comets. Huyghe holds a BA from UVA (social psychology) and an MS from Syracuse University (journalism). During his two decades as a science writer, his work appeared in: Newsweek, Discover, Omni, Time-Life, Psychology Today, The New York Times Magazine and many other publications. Huyghe has authored four books: Glowing Birds: Stories from the Edge of Science (1985), Columbus Was Last (1992), The Field Guide to Extraterrestrials (1996), and Swamp Gas Times (2001). Patrick has co-authored five other books, notably: The Field Guide to Bigfoot and Other Mystery Primates with Loren Coleman (1999), The Field Guide to UFOs with Dennis Stacy (2000), and The Field Guide to Lake Monsters and Sea Serpents with Loren Coleman (2002).

Dr. Henry H. Bauer

Insights on Studying UFOs, Lake Monsters & Sea Serpents

Dr. Bauer comes to us most recently from Virginia Polytechnic Institute, where he is Professor Emeritus of Chemistry & Science Studies and Dean Emeritus of Arts & Sciences. Prior to his stint at Tech, Dr. Bauer attended and taught at the University of Sydney, Australia; did post-doctoral work at the University of Michigan and the University of Kentucky; and had teaching assignments in England and Japan. No armchair scholar, he has examined various scientific unorthodoxies personally, most notably spending time at Loch Ness, Scotland tracking down it's famous Sea Monster. This research culminated in the writing of Enigma of Loch Ness: Making Sense of a Mystery. Other titles include, Beyond Velikovsky: The History of a Public Controversy, and Science or Pseudoscience: Magnetic Healing, Psychic Phenomena, and Other Heterodoxies. Dr. Bauer was born in Austria, educated in Australia and furthered his educational career around the globe. Dr. Bauer has published widely and has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Scientific Exploration (JSE) since 2000.

Tribute to Lake Effects the Movie

Come "Rekindle" the Excitement With DeeDee Bondurant &
the She-Doos!

Did you know a feature-length film was shot at Smith Mountain Lake? And it has a theme of a potential Lake Monster? The SML Community rolled up their sleeves and opened their hearts to help out for the making of Lake Effects starring Scottie Thompson (Star Trek 2009); Jane Seymour (Wedding Crashers, Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman); Madeline Zima (Woody Allens's Alice, The Hand That Rocks the Cradle, The Nanny); and Jeff Fahey (of LOST fame). The project was the brainchild of local gal and actress Sara Elizabeth Timmins, who grew up around the Lake and recognized its special allure. The script and movie grew out of her love for the lake and the people around the SML area and practically wrote itself. Join us for some fun in looking back at the production and a preview look forward to its premiere on the Hallmark Channel on May 6th, 2012. It's not every day a movie is shot in Virginia and flirts with the subplot of a potential Lake Monster named Smithy.
